Solving problems my ideas for digital music.

Where do I take all my old cassette tapes, vinyl albums, cd’s? If I put them in a Garage Sale they sell for pennies if at all. Even on Ebay they bring little. I could digitize them all and throw them out but there are two problems with that. First, more clutter for the landfills and Second, most of this music has already been digitized by someone. It would be very time consuming to digitize all of this myself and why should I when it has already been done. I own these tapes , records and cd’s. I purchased them all. At the time when they were made no-one knew we were moving into a digital future full of mp3’s, Ogg’s, and other files.  I could obtain most of these songs using a program such as Limewire that would search for all of these songs and let me download them for free. However, this is illegal as you cannot share copyrighted material. I could purchase them through a source such as Itunes or Lala, but why should I have to pay for something again that I already purchased just because the format has changed? I have an idea that would create jobs, promote recycling and curb the sharing of copyrighted music. I propose there should be centers all over the country where I could order a mailing box. I could then place up to 10 items in this box; cd’s, records, tapes. I pay for the box and postage. The center receives the box and documents the contents. The music is then made available to me to be able to download in digital format. The centers could have servers or be connected to Google, Itunes, etc. someplace where my songs could be available for a 1 week period to give me time to download them. I could also pay an additional fee to have the songs stored on  a server for $10 a month. I would not pay for the songs but I would pay a processing fee of $2.00 per cd, record, or tape. The Records, Tapes and CD’s then get sent to recycling centers to be melted and re-used. This would also help to get all of the music digitized. Most of it (I believe) already is, so that work is done already – it would be more of sorting out the red tape with the record labels, music publishers, itunes, etc. as to how to coordinate all this together. There could be other centers set up that actually do the digitizing of media for items that are sent in that are not currently available in digital format anywhere.  You can see many jobs would be created to do all the processing and digitizing work. I am not a business major by any means, so others could probably find additional or better ways of making profits by doing this. I personally would just like to use a service like this if it were available. I also believe many others would take advantage of it as well.

Microsoft Vista Unrepairable

Has anyone had much experience repairing Vista when it breaks? In my experience so far it seems to always need a complete format to fix the problems whatever they may be. This could be sound problems, registry issues, virus issues, etc. I searched for information about this on multiple search engines today but found no information regarding these problems so I decided to make a post so at least if someone else searches the internet for the phrase “vista unrepairable” at least they will find this post although I have no answers. There also does not seem to be a repair install like you could do in XP.

Fave OS

After contemplating purchasing a mac lately I instead transformed my Windows XP PC into a fake one using Flyakite see http://osx.portraitofakite.com/

I now have all the beauty and look of the mac osx but I can use all of my windows programs – I am loving it actually – I have not seen anything yet convincing me that there is better software out there for macs than for all of the great software I already have for xp. Goes for Linux as well, keep trying that since it is free but always come back to XP as my main os, oh, Vista was no picnic either, and is crazy hard to fix when it goes down , so far in my research and testing almost always requires a format to repair – sucks bad – so I am still going with xp but macified. and here is a cool new “beta” antivirus program to try out if you dare. It’s FREE!!    http://www.cloudantivirus.com/

Radica Funkey Dream State Starter Pack

I purchased this Funkey starter kit tonight – looked like fun – short games plus different little Funkey creatures that you attach to a main usb hub – each one unlocking different games and content. I had read several reviews before purchasing it (I bought the starter pack plus 2 singles) This was the Dream State pack and it was on sale. The reviews were all positive. Hence This POST. This thing is a piece of crap and I am returning it to the store tomorrow. When I attach any of the Funkeys to the hub I get an error message to re-attach the Funkey or call a 1-800 number – I did both – no solutions – the number directed me to a mattel website service.mattel.com where they offer no help but instead tell you to call a number. I tried all of the Funkey characters I had – four in all – they all did the same thing, I updated the software, found a fix online about an rdf file – tried that – looked at multiple posts – most had to do with Vista but I have XP – the Vista ones said to run as Admin – this did not help me – I found another post that said the actual software that comes with the Dream State pack is faulty right out of the box and that I may have to order a cd from mattel. No thanks.

About all I was able to do on the mattel help site was to fill out a survey and tell them how bad their help site was.

So be warned if thinking of purchasing these things – while searching for my problem I found multiple other people having the same problems – hopefully I get my cash back tomorrow for this piece of crap.

I post this number one as a warning to consumers and two as a warning to mattel to get the problem resolved and have some information on the help site to actually help consumers with this problem. As for me I just want my money back.

All OS Suck!

I wish I had a mac so I could compare to the rest of this crap. I had to patch all my XP systems today due to another ie exploit – vista sucks cause mine is always locking up and doing weird things like hanging on boot for 15 min , etc. I was in love with GOS Space until I ran an update for it tonight. Now it doesn’t work either. After the update to Ubuntu 8.05 I can no longer boot into it – it only lets me do a memtest. I found a forum for help and it basically says to reinstall the OS – What!!! – I just want to use my computer – and I just want it to work – do mac users have these issues??? I am soooo frustrated!!

Gos Space – Vista and XP

Windows XP has been my choice of OS lately (past few weeks) as everything works in it and all the software and games I need to use work flawlessly. I was attempting to like and use Vista but my pc kept locking up on me – it’s not the hardware because I have XP on the same pc and it is just fine.  I have also been kinda bored with Linux lately – keep downloading and trying but not finding anything real different, until now. This week I discovered GOS Space and Wanky!! this is HOT!! Finally something new and different and a lot of Flair! to boot.

Great job on this one – I am now using XP Pro on one pc and GOS SPACE on the other – nice mix. I don’t use my space as a social tool like the young folks do – but I have a music page on there and the GOS SPACE is setup for the MY SPACE generation – and it’s built on UBUNTU!! So you know it’s great.

Whoopee I am using linux again!

More IE troubles and new music

So I’m now making some web forms – thought I had 3 of them done tonight when blammo – IE issues again. This time for some odd reason IE is not displaying the labels on my yes/no radio buttons (what what) – have no idea what is up with that – the dropdowns seem to work fine so I guess I am going to use yes/no drops instead of radio buttons – stupid IE – Now for some better news – new music up now on TapeGerm here is one new track – you can find more if you look around the site.

CSS Problems

So, I design websites and was attempting to move from Old School to new school. I am pretty proficient in HTML coding and know how to work with frames, tables, etc. I get this new book that is teaching me XHTML and CSS and I have also been studying CSS online. So on my latest website project I decide to go ahead and go with a CSS based website with no tables. This seems to be the new method that everyone is raving about and online people are saying not to use tables. Ok, so I do the whole website and I check it at W3C and it passes validation (after I fixed one error) so far so good. The website works with Firefox, Google Chrome, and on a MAC with Safari and Internet Explorer. But Wait! It does not work with Internet Explorer 7 in Windows!!!! The whole left side shifts down even though my code is error free! So what is the deal? I have searched all night for solutions and found none and tons of people seem to have issues with IE7 and CSS so now my thoughts are that maybe it is not a good idea to move forward into this whole CSS realm when it does not work right with the browser that most people use. I am now thinking of redoing the whole site with tables like I have always done. I know that will work. What good is CSS if IE7 has so many issues with it?

Puppy Linux 4.0

So I have been using Windows XP almost exclusively lately – past 2 weeks or so. I thought I would give Puppy Linux 4 a go on the lastest pc that I built. Video configured fine, internet configured fine, sound was not. I ran the sound configuration and got my woof – so good. But Wait, I installed flash really easily via the puppy package manager launched SeaMonkey and did my YouTube test – I had partitioned a 2GB Flash Drive with ext3 that I was going to use to save files while using the live cd – However – as usual when I go to play a YouTube video THERE IS NO SOUND!!! What is this crap? Test FAILED!!! Now I am about to repartition my Flash Drive so I can use it in XP and I am going back to my Windows XP system where everything works and where I will have sound in YouTube.
