Want to protect yourself online? Do you go to questionable websites? All you have to do is figure out how to burn an .iso image. Then go download one of the thousands of freely available Live Linux CD’s or DVD’s. Burn your disc then reboot the computer and your Live Linux cd will start up. If you have broadband internet your connection should be detected automatically. Since you are running off of a cd it cannot be infected with anything. Do your web-browsing safely with Live Linux. You don’t have to worry about a corrupt registry or missing system files, or blue screens of death all associated with Microsoft Windows. There are many Live Linux cd’s available keep trying them and I’m sure you will find one that you like. Plus it’s like booting into a new computer every time you boot up – because the cd does not change or get corrupted or infected. What could be better. Most cd burning programs such as Nero make it very easy to burn an .iso image. Just look for the option to burn a disc image. Point to your .iso file and burn it. If you use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express stop using it – I see these programs get corrupted beyond repair all the time. Then you lose your mail, address book, and everything. I suggest using a webmail service like Gmail, or Yahoo Mail. You can access your webmail from any computer and it also works great with a Live Linux cd. The likelyhood of losing your address book or mail with a webmail service is highly unlikely. Safe browsing and safe email. What could be better.

Testing various versions of Linux is a hobby of mine. I have to say without a doubt at this time that nothing compares to Ubuntu Linux. I have tried so many different distros it would make your brain spin. The only other one I am currently using is Myah OS – which is very nice but still does not compare to Ubuntu, for instance when I tried to watch Hulu in Myah my Firefox web browser shut down. No errors or anything it just disappeared when I typed in http://www.hulu.com. That’s crazy. There is always some little glitch or many here or there in the other distributions I have tried. I do like the idea that there are so many different ones out there to try but I still keep coming back to UBUNTU.

I was reading about Hulu this weekend for those that don’t know it is a site with tv, movies, clips etc. similar to YouTube or Google Video but with more mainstream content provided by NBC and Fox. There are commercials but these were very tolerable. I watched an episode of Eureka to test the service. Video qualitiy was a little blurry at full screen but not bad – commercials were kept to a minimum – four or five times (I’m guessing) over the 43 minutes a commercial would come on for what seemed like 30 seconds and then I would be right back to the program. There was no lag – no buffering or starting/stopping of the video. I watched it from beginning to end with no problems. There is a nice pop out feature if you want to watch a program while you are doing something else. Also, what is really great for me – I was doing all this in UBUNTU Linux!! So yep, you don’t need Windows to do Hulu!! Awesome.
I still prefer some of the content on YouTube or Google video more – I like a lot of the non-mainstream stuff plus there is a lot of good tech stuff on those services but , if you just want to watch some mainstream tv shows or catch a movie (at this time they have around 100) Hulu is a good place to do it.

This post is due to the fact that I was searching all over the internet to find out where the hard drive is on this notebook. I never did find any help on the net. But, I did locate the hard drive myself so I thought I would post in case others are looking for it. The hard drive is actually located underneath the keyboard on this notebook. There is a plastic piece that contains the power button and other buttons above the keyboard. This plastic piece also has two hinge covers attached to it they are screwed on in the back. Take those two screws out then pop off the plastic piece. It has a bunch of plastic tabs that pop out. Then you can get to the keyboard is is held in with 4 screws at the top and some tabs at the bottom that just slide out. Now you can see your hard drive. The hard drive is in a metal bracket – you now have to loosen all the screws in this bracket to get it out and then unscrew the hard drive from the bracket once you remove it. Hope this helps anyone else that is having trouble finding the hard drive in an HP XH 535 Notebook.
